Hot Date: Dos Amigos
Friday, time for a night out on the town, taco style.
I took the girly to Dos Amigos since its got a very comfy and intimate feel to the inside. Its got a sweetass backyard patio by the way, definitely worth a check in the summer.
Their menus pretty extensive, with a lot of pricier choices like Mariscada and Pescado Asado, and of course good ‘ole taco platters. They’ve got a Tequila list that will mess you up good too. I started off with some Cafe de Olla which is like a spicy black coffee, served up in a nice mug with a cinnamon stick. I’m glad I had something to sip on because the service was pretty damn slow that night. The girly was starting to get restless, but thats why I like her.

First up was the Chorizo Al Jerez. Pretty much a skillet with chorizo, peppers and onions in a sherry sauce. That junk was delicious and it even came with some of their home made tortillas. As an appetizer its not huge, but the tortillas are pretty puny so it was still shareable. I think that one was 9 bucks, definitely worth it.

World peace in a skillet
Next up was the taco goods. Keep in mind this is a classier Mexican joint, so a 3 taco platter for $7.75 here is a deal. We went with the 5 taco Taquiza sampler, giving us a taste of the veggie, pork (al pastor), steak, chicken, and chorizo. Quick review: Veggie was great, pork was great, chorizo was good, steak was alright, chicken kinda sucked. The tacos are small here, but they definitely dont skimp on the meat portions. What let me down was everything else they forgot to put in the tacos. A fingers worth of flacid onions and green pepper was spread across all five, with no fresh vegetables to go on top. Where muh lettuce? Wheres the tomatoes at?? Cilantro por favor? Nothing. I mean the meats were all of higher quality than most of the other places, but I need a little bit more.
The sauces were also pretty weak. Just green and red, super mild, could have been snot, who knows. Would have liked some fresh salsa somewhere on my plate. Still pissed about not having any vegetables on my tacos. The veggie taco though, got high marks from my girl for having nice pan fried cauliflowers, broccoli and peppers.

Time for redemption. The dessert menu arrived and I went with the Churros. These are not the long shitty plastic sticks they serve at canada’s wonderland and 7/11 that so many are used to. Dos Amigo’s makes THE best churros in Toronto, no question about it. Four churros, crispy on the outside, ooey gooey on the inside, sat in front of us for no more than a minute and a half. We were downing those guys like mice on cheese. The churros were covered in a dolce de leche type of sauce, and an extra chocolate dipping sauce for maximum chocolateness. This is what all desserts should be.

Dos Amigos is a super chill Mexican spot with a real nice atmosphere, or ambience as the non-taco population say. Definitely a good joint to hit up if youre hiding from the rain. Even with the lacking tacos, and crap service, they’ve still got the quality and decent prices under control. I’m going to recommend it for nights out, birthdays, honeymoons, pretty much any special occasion. They even serve water in empty tequila bottles. Now thats classy.
